TCL is set to launch the X11L TV at CES 2026, aiming for a breakthrough in LCD screen technology with enhanced brightness and color accuracy. The key feature is its Super Quantum Dot layer, designed to push color vibrancy to new levels.
The Battle for Better Color
While competitors like LG and Samsung are focusing on MicroRGB backlights, TCL claims its approach offers superior contrast through a unique backlighting system. This is significant because contrast is crucial for image depth, and better contrast means a more immersive viewing experience. The company’s strategy centers on achieving 100% of the BT.2020 color space, using three proprietary technologies: Super Quantum Dot Crystals (Super QLED), an UltraColor Filter, and an Advanced Color Purity Algorithm.
Brightness Redefined
The X11L is designed to reach a peak brightness of up to 10,000 nits. If accurate, this would make it one of the brightest TVs on the market, potentially overcoming a common limitation of LCD technology: washed-out colors in bright scenes. The TV also incorporates MiniLED backlighting with TCL’s Halo Control system, which aims to minimize distracting light bleed around bright objects.
Design and Features
The X11L features a WHVA 2.0 Ultra Panel with a near-invisible ZeroBorder design, maximizing the screen-to-body ratio. It supports multiple HDR formats (Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10+, HDR10, HLG) and includes a high-end audio system by Bang and Olufsen with Dolby Atmos support.
First Impressions
Initial hands-on testing showed the X11L delivering vivid colors and high contrast in Standard mode. However, when switched to Filmmaker Mode, the colors became less saturated, suggesting accuracy may vary depending on the preset. Real-world performance will depend on how well the TV handles color calibration in various settings.
Availability
The X11L will be available in 75, 85, and 98-inch sizes this month. TCL’s move indicates a continued push toward high-performance LCDs as a viable alternative to more expensive MicroLED and OLED technologies.
