OnePlus has begun selling its latest flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 15, in China, with a global rollout – including availability in the US and UK – anticipated in the coming weeks. The device boasts high-end specifications and several notable upgrades over its predecessor.
Key Specifications and Features
The Chinese model of the OnePlus 15 comes in three color options: Sand Storm, black, and purple. It features a 6.78-inch display with a 165Hz refresh rate, ensuring smooth visuals for gaming and everyday use. Powering the phone is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, a top-tier chip for Android devices.
Battery life is a major focus: the OnePlus 15 includes a 7,300mAh battery, one of the largest capacities currently available in a flagship smartphone. Charging speeds are also impressive, with 120W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. However, historical trends suggest that US models may not always retain the fastest charging capabilities.
The camera setup consists of a triple-lens system: a 50-megapixel wide, 50-megapixel ultrawide, and 50-megapixel telephoto with 3.5x optical zoom. A 32-megapixel front camera handles selfies.
Pricing and Availability
The pre-sale price in China starts at 4,899 Yuan (approximately $689, £515, or AU$1,050), with configurations ranging from 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.
Faster Rollout and Design Details
OnePlus appears to be accelerating its release cycle, teasing the global model on its UK website earlier than usual. The company previously skipped the number “4” (from OnePlus 3 to OnePlus 5) and is now skipping “14”, a decision that remains unexplained.
Notably, the Sand Storm variant is constructed from a material said to be 1.3 times tougher than titanium. It’s unclear whether this version will carry a price premium. The absence of native magnetic wireless charging is also confirmed, though OnePlus may offer a compatible case.
Chinese Market Dynamics
The Chinese market also features the OnePlus Ace 6 alongside the OnePlus 15, which boasts an even larger 7,800mAh battery. This suggests that OnePlus is tailoring its product lineup to regional preferences.
The OnePlus 15 represents a significant upgrade in both performance and battery capacity, setting a high bar for flagship Android devices. While some features may vary in global models, the Chinese launch provides a clear indication of the phone’s capabilities.
