Netflix is moving further into audio-visual content by partnering with iHeartMedia to stream over 15 video podcasts, starting in 2026 for US subscribers. This move follows an earlier deal with Spotify to bring their video podcasts to the platform as well, signaling a major shift in how consumers will access podcast content.
Key Podcasts Included in the Deal
The initial launch will feature popular shows like The Breakfast Club, Joe and Jada, Chelsea Handler’s Dear Chelsea, and My Favorite Murder. Netflix will stream new episodes alongside a selection of older content, with plans to expand the library and eventually reach international audiences.
Why This Matters
This isn’t just about adding more shows to Netflix; it’s about the growing trend of video podcasts gaining traction. Historically, podcasts were audio-only. Now, with platforms like YouTube and Spotify leading the way, visual versions are becoming increasingly popular. Netflix’s entry into this space means video podcasts are no longer niche—they’re mainstream.
Expansion Beyond US Markets
While the initial rollout is limited to the US, Netflix plans to expand the video podcast offering to subscribers worldwide. iHeartMedia will continue to host the audio-only versions of these podcasts. Other shows joining the lineup include Behind the Bastards, This Is Important, Stuff to Blow Your Mind, and The Psychology of Your 20s.
Competition with Spotify
Netflix will also be streaming video versions of podcasts previously exclusive to Spotify, such as The Bill Simmons Podcast and Conspiracy Theories. This direct competition highlights Netflix’s ambition to become a leading platform for all kinds of video content, including spoken-word formats.
The expansion into video podcasts underscores the evolving media landscape, where streaming services are vying for dominance in both traditional and emerging content categories. With Netflix now entering the fray, viewers will soon have more options than ever for consuming their favorite podcasts.
