FromSoftware’s fast-paced online spinoff, Elden Ring: Nightreign, is receiving its first major expansion, The Forsaken Hollows, on December 4th. The DLC, unveiled during Tuesday’s State of Play, will introduce two new playable character classes, additional bosses, and environmental changes to the already popular rogue-like experience.
New Nightfarer Classes
The most significant addition will be the Scholar and the Undertaker, two new Nightfarer classes with unique playstyles.
- The Scholar is described as an “academic” with high arcane stats, suggesting a focus on bleed damage and tactical advantages. His “battlefield observation” ability remains unspecified but implies a unique utility.
- The Undertaker is an “abbess” specializing in strength and faith, implying both melee prowess and support capabilities (healing).
Boss Expansion
The Forsaken Hollows will feature at least one new end-of-night boss, the Dreglord. Additionally, several new field bosses will be added, including a surprise appearance from Atorias – a beloved yet tragic character from the Dark Souls franchise. His inclusion is a nod to the game’s roots and could be a major draw for veteran fans.
Shifting Earth and Map Changes
The DLC introduces a new “Shifting Earth” mechanic that alters map conditions mid-match. This dynamic element will force players to adapt to new environmental hazards and opportunities, keeping matches unpredictable. Alongside this, players can expect additional points of interest to explore on existing maps.
Pricing and Access
Elden Ring: Nightreign: The Forsaken Hollows will be available for $15 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. A copy of Elden Ring: Nightreign is required to play the DLC, but the original Elden Ring is not.
The Forsaken Hollows promises to revitalize the Nightreign player base with substantial new content. The addition of Atorias and dynamic map events suggests FromSoftware is doubling down on both fan service and innovative gameplay. This DLC is likely to extend Nightreign’s lifespan and solidify its position as a unique extension of the Elden Ring universe.
